ORIENTAL BAND PERFORMS AT SDA
Illustrious Sir tommy, General Chairman David Skaggs, and the Directors Staff certainly deserve praise on the Akdar-hosted
SDA held in Tulsa, March 23-27, 2004. The many Nobles and their Ladies from around the country who attended had
a great time.
The Oriental Band enjoyed performing at the opening Pizza Party, and again before and during the grand entry of
the President's Banquet. The comments we heard about the Oriental Band were very favorable. One of the visiting
Nobles was really impressed with variation in pace that we play different music. |Depending on the music we play,
our rhythm can be up beat, steady, or slow and deliberate. This makes our playing more interesting than if everything
were played to the same beat.
As an added bonus of playing at the opening SDA Pizza Party was to have the privilage of performing before Imperial
Sir Oien and his Lady Sharon.
Om April 3rd, the Oriental Band had fun playing on our trailor in the Muskogee Parade. From the crowd, as we were
passing by, we could see some indication of approval with the thumbs up sign. The Band certainly appreciated Mel
Coffee playing the Congo Drum, and Jack Kelsey, pulling the trailor with his vehicle. Were it not for these fine
Nobles, the Oriental Band would not have been able to participate in this great parade.
To perform well, the Oriental Band has to always have two or more playing Musettes; one Congo Drum; one Cymbals;
one Big Drum; and one Tambourine. In a parade, we also need to have a Noble with a pickup or other vehicle to pull
our trailor. If we had a few more good Nobles in the Oriental Band, it would make our unit even better.
We have an excellent Music Director in Ken VanCura, and a fine President in Bill Ashford.
For any Noble not presently in a unit, give some thought to becomming part of the Oriental Band. We are a fun group
to be in. A good opportunity to meet the Members is at one of the Oriental Band Family Dinners, ussually held the
3rd Monday each month. The food and company are always great. An example, at the Family Dinner in March, Ralph
Hallin prepared a super New England Boil Dinner. Another good way to meet Oriental Band Members is to attend one
of our practices, also held on Mondays, other than the 3rd Monday of each month. Sometimes, we have one practice
a month; occasionally more than one.
If you are interested in attending an Oriental Band Family Dinner or an Oriental Band Practice, please call Richard
Goldwyn at (918) 493-7412 (home) or (918) 743-2265 (office).

MERRI-MAKERS UNIT NEWS
Wow! Time flies when your having fun. The St. Patricks Day Parade was held on a rainy March Day
and at the Parade time the rain momentarily stopped and the Parade started. Although the crowd was 10 fold less
than the 2003 Parade, the five Merri-Makers, Max Owen, David May, Don Davis, rick Grubbs and Larry Kirkpatrick
survived and entertained a very, very small crowd. Actually there were more participants in the parade than spectators.
The clowns assisted at the Abate Motorcycle Show. Clowns that attended either Saturday or Sunday were Raymond Jackson,
Edd Ott, David Kupiec, Hank Henson, Larry Flatt, and Larry Kirkpatrick.
The Merri-Makers that recieved awards for their outstanding "circus support" were April Wheeler, Judy
Long, and Mary May. These Ladies made every performance. These awards were presented at a Merri-Makers outing at
the Shiloh Resturant on the 22nd of March.
The April Meeting was held on April 1st with no April Fools jokes. The meeting was attended by our divan Liason,
G.W. Trenary. G.W. had some kind words about our growing unit. By the way, we are always searching for new clowns.
As we continue to grow we are getting more opportunities to perform.
Special circus awards were given to Bruce Long and Raymond Jackson for exemplay performance at the circus. At the
March meeting Hank Henson and David May were presented "Clown of the Month" certificates. These awards
were well deserved.
Keep Smiling!
Larry "Lobo" Kirkpatrick, Director

GREETERS NEWS & GREETINGS
Greetings to one and all. I hope you all enjoyed the Potentates party.
I dont have much to say today, but I didnt want anyone to forget the Greeters. This will be my last report as I
will have moved away by the time this is published. I will miss Akdar and the Greeters, but things in life do change.
Why dont you ever see the headline, "Psychic Wins Lottery"?
Why is the time of day with the slowest traffic called rush hour?
Why didnt Noah swat those two mosquitoes?
You know that industructable black box that is used on airplanes? Why dont they make the whole plane out of that
stuff?!
For any new (or older) Nobles looking for a Unit, we invite you to come visit with us. The Greeters meet the third
Thursday each month at 6:00 p.m. for dinner and fellowship, followed by our regular business meeting. If you and
your Lady would like to visit, please contact our Director, Don at 918-352-2090 so we will be expecting you. Have
a nice day.
